What is the Answer Block Checker?

The EduTechToday Answer Block Checker is a free AEO tool that scores a question and its answer paragraph out of 100 for featured snippets, Google AI Overviews and AI assistant citations. It checks eight things, including length, directness, readability and specifics, and tells you exactly what to fix.

How to use the Answer Block Checker

  1. Type the question exactly as your heading asks it.
  2. Paste the paragraph directly under that heading. Only the first paragraph is scored as the answer block.
  3. Click Check my answer and work through anything marked Fix or Improve.
  4. Re-check after editing until you score 80 or more.

What is an answer block?

An answer block is a short, self-contained paragraph, usually 40 to 60 words, that answers one question directly, right under a heading that asks it. It’s the core unit of answer engine optimization (AEO), because search engines and AI assistants often lift a single passage rather than a whole page.

What this checker scores

  • Question heading: phrased the way people ask.
  • Length: 40–60 words, short enough to quote whole.
  • Direct opening: no warm-up phrases like “Great question”.
  • Self-contained: restates the topic instead of starting with “It” or “This”.
  • Sentence length and readability: plain, scannable English.
  • Specifics: numbers, ranges or timeframes.
  • Confidence: few hedge words.

What it can't tell you

Structure is only part of the picture. Whether Google or an AI tool actually picks your passage also depends on your site’s authority, how well the page matches the searcher’s intent, and freshness. Use this checker to remove the structural reasons you’d be skipped.

Why I built this

Most content I audit already contains the right answer. It’s just buried in paragraph four, behind a warm-up. AI tools and featured snippets lift short, self-contained passages, so the fastest win is usually moving the answer to the top and trimming it to about 50 words. This checker is the same review I do by hand.

Frequently asked questions

What is AEO?

Answer engine optimization: structuring content so search engines and AI assistants can lift it as a direct answer, in featured snippets, AI Overviews, voice answers and chat responses.

How long should a featured snippet answer be?

Around 40 to 60 words for paragraph snippets. Long enough to answer fully, short enough to be shown whole.

Does a high score guarantee a snippet?

No. It means the structure is right. Authority, relevance and freshness also decide which page is picked.

What readability score should I aim for?

A Flesch Reading Ease of 50 or higher, which is plain English most adults read easily.

Is my content sent anywhere?

No. The checker runs entirely in your browser.
