‘Vi’ a new brand identify for Vodafone Idea
Vi Vodafone Idea rebrands as ‘VI’ amidst competition in the Indian telecom sector. The companies were already merged back in August 2018. Vodafone Idea says that it has completed world’s largest mobile network integration in record time.
Here is what Vodafone Idea managing director CEO Ravinder Takkar said
As we put our best foot forward to face what lies ahead of us, I’d like to share a piece of news I’m really excited about. Vodafone and Idea are now Vi™.
What is Vi™?
It’s the coming together of two of India’s most loved and trusted brands, Vi Vodafone Idea.
It’s built to be strong, ever-dependable, agile, intuitive, and in tune with your needs in these ever-changing times. With its eyes set on the future, Vi™ is built for you, around you, to help you move forward and build a better today and brighter tomorrow. A tomorrow, we’ll build together.

I invite you to join us on this journey, as we move ahead together, for tomorrow.
A fresh start
Looks like it is a fresh start for the two giants. The company further said that the name ‘Vi’ is much more than just an abbreviation of Vodafone and Idea. ‘Vi’ is read as ‘we’, which reflects the collective nature of Indian society.
At the time of the merger, Vodafone and Idea had a collective user base of 408 million users. A significant drop to 208 million users was seen by the end of June this year due to the newcomer Jio which has a current user base of 400 million users.
What’s Next?
Ahead of rebranding, it is expected that there will be price hike for the Vi Vodafone Idea prepaid and postpaid users. Vi has not announced any new prepaid and postpaid plans yet. However, we can expect new tariff plans in the coming days.
Vi also says that they will continue to partner with the government of India to push forward the digital economy mission. Earlier on Friday Vodafone Idea declared its intention to raise fresh capital to pay off the hefty dues owed to the government. The company will also continue to invest in 4G wireless technology.
