Tinder is including a panic button and other safety options to the dating app. The brand new features will cover emergency assistance, location tracking, and photo verification. Tinder will offer the features first within the US from 28 January; however, it didn’t say when they will be obtainable globally.
Parent company Match Group – which additionally owns PlentyOfFish, OkCupid, and Hinge – aims to roll out the options on its other dating platforms later this year. Match Group mentioned it had invested in Noonlight, which offers the web emergency response services and personal safety products that Tinder will use.
Noonlight’s technology will allow users to alert emergency providers and transmit highly accurate location information. Before assembly someone, customers will be able to save information about the person and when the date is happening.
If they then hit the panic button, emergency providers will be alerted with the details, along with correct location data. The app’s new photo verification function will assist users in avoiding so-called “catfishing” when somebody uses a faux identity online.
It should make use of human-assisted Artificial Intelligence (AI) to test that profile pictures uploaded to the app, with users asked to confirm their identity by taking several real-time selfies.
