Apple is reportedly building out its network of satellites to work with Apple gadgets like iPhones and iPads. It could allow Apple’s devices to communicate with one another without using carriers.
The often reliable Bloomberg has the scoop, citing folks “acquainted with the work” who know what the “secret team” inside the Apple Park campus is as much as.
This won’t come as a complete shock to those who’ve been paying attention, although there was discuss of an Apple satellite community back in 2017 when Apple employed two ex-Googlers with interest in space tech.
The group as a complete is reportedly made up of around a dozen aerospace, satellite, and antenna specialists, and the project is alleged to have caught the attention of Apple CEO Tim Cook – indicating it is precedence inside the corporate.
